- Pixel: Enables conversion measurement/optimization; without it, learning is limited.
- UTMs: Preserve source/medium/campaign for clear ROI attribution.
How to set up Targeting
When you reach Targeting, either use a template or start fresh. This ensures your audience aligns with your objective (Traffic, Leads, Sales).
- Traffic Source (Facebook, TikTok, NewsBreak, etc.) defines available placements & audience data.
- Targeting Type aligns setup with your goal: Traffic, Leads, Sales.
Part A — Use a Targeting Template
Option 1 – Pre-Saved Template
- Open the Targeting Template dropdown.
- Select your saved template.
- Click Proceed to load locations, demographics, events, etc.
Option 2 – Recommended Template
- Choose a preset (e.g., Sales Campaign, Traffic Campaign).
- Click Proceed to apply proven defaults.
Templates accelerate launches, enforce best practices, and reduce human error—ideal for evergreen promos and repeatable motions.
Part B — Start Fresh (Manual Targeting)
- Click Skip and Start with New.
- Configure: Bid Strategy (CBO/ABO), Objective (Conversions/Leads/Traffic/Engagement), Locations (include/exclude), Demographics (age/gender/language), Conversion Event (Purchase/Add to Cart/Lead…), Conversion Location (Website/App/Messenger), Performance Goal (Max Conversions/Max Link Clicks), CTA (Shop Now/Learn More/Sign Up).
How to create a new Targeting Template (for reuse)
Steps
-
Go to Launch → Targeting Templates → Create.
-
Select Traffic Source: Facebook / TikTok / NewsBreak.
-
Name the Template clearly (e.g.,
US_18-34_Purchase_LAL3%_CBO). -

- Bid Strategy: Lowest Cost / Bid Cap / Cost Cap (start with Lowest Cost unless strict CPA/CPL)
- Objective: Conversions / Traffic / Engagement / Lead Gen (must be compatible with Pixel)
- Budget Type: ABO (per Ad Set) or CBO (shared)
-
Audience Targeting
- Locations (include/exclude; radius)
- Demographics (gender, age, languages)
- Interests & Behaviors (if supported)
-
Conversion Settings: Event + Location.
